સૌ પ્રથમ કાવ્યમા આવતા કેટલાક મહત્વના શબ્દો અને તેના અર્થ તૈયાર કરી લેવા જોઈએ, જેથી કાવ્ય સમજવામા સરળતા રહે.

headlong – એકદમ ઉતાવળથી કરેલુ

to dash – માં ધસી જવુ

hath – હોવુ

to sound – દોરી નાંખીને દરિયાની ઉંડાઇ માપવી

sail – દરિયાનો પ્રવાસ

to round – વાળવુ, પૂર્ણ કરવુ

eternity – અનંતકાળ

River, river, little river!

Bright you sparkle on your way;

O’er the yellow pebbles dancing,

Through the flowers and foliage glancing,

Like a child at play.

Down you dash into the sea,

Sea that line hath never sounded, Sea that sail hath never

rounded,Like Eternity.

Ans. The river dashes into the sea.

Ans. The sea is compared to Eternity.

3. Why does the poet compare the sea to Eternity?

Ans. The poet compares the sea to Eternity because the depth of the sea

can never be measured and it keeps on flowing endlessly.
